# Binho Nova: FAQ

> Short answers to common questions about the Binho Nova: protocols, software, datasheet, calibration, several adapters at once, and how it compares.

Short answers to common questions about the Binho Nova.

## What protocols does the Nova support?

* **I2C:** controller, up to 3.4 MHz
* **SPI:** controller, up to 12 MHz
* **UART:** up to 1,000,000 baud
* **1-Wire:** Dallas 1-Wire
* **Single-Wire:** Atmel Single-Wire Interface (SWI)
* **GPIO:** 5 pins, with PWM and interrupts, plus ADC inputs and a DAC output

I3C, RS-485 and CAN-FD are not supported on the Nova. How each protocol works on the Nova: [Protocols](/hardware/nova/protocols/). All adapters side by side: [Protocols and Interfaces](/hardware/protocol-support/).

## Is the Nova still supported?

Yes. It is Binho's first-generation adapter, still [sold on binho.io](https://binho.io/test-measurement/products/binho-nova/), and it uses its own software: Mission Control 2 and the `binho` Python package.

## Which software do I use?

[Mission Control 2](/software/legacy/mission-control-2/) for a point-and-click app, or the [Nova SDK](/software/legacy/nova-sdk/) (`pip install binho`) for Python. Mission Control 3, PyCosmicSDK and CosmicSDK do not support the Nova. See [Supported Devices](/software/supported-devices/).

## Where can I find the Nova datasheet?

Product datasheets and other technical documents are in the document library at [my.binho.io](https://my.binho.io). The current Nova datasheet is revision 1.4, and it can also be downloaded directly: [Binho Nova Multi-Protocol USB Host Adapter Datasheet v1.4](https://cdn.binho.io/doc/nova/datasheet/1.4/Binho%20Nova%20Datasheet%20v1.4.pdf) [pdf].

## Is the ADC calibrated? Is the DAC?

No, on every Binho adapter. The Nova's 5 signal pins can be ADC inputs, and one pin is a DAC output. Use the ADC for roughly DC voltages only, and the DAC as a near-DC test stimulus. See [Is the ADC calibrated?](/support/faq/is-the-adc-calibrated/) and [Is the DAC calibrated?](/support/faq/is-the-dac-calibrated/).

## Can I use more than one Nova at the same time?

Yes. Each Nova is its own serial port with its own serial number. With Mission Control 2, launch one instance of the app per Nova. With the `binho` Python package, choose the Nova by index, COM port or device ID. See [Can multiple devices be used at the same time?](/support/faq/can-multiple-devices-be-used-at-the-same-time/)

## Can I run my Nova software on a Supernova or Pulsar?

Mostly. A Supernova or Pulsar on firmware 4.4.0 or later can emulate the Nova's ASCII protocol on its virtual COM port. The emulation is close, but not exact: see [Nova Compatible Mode](/guides/usb-interfaces/usb-cdc-operating-modes/nova-compatible-mode/).

## Which adapter should I choose?

See [Choose the Right Adapter](/hardware/nova/#choose-the-right-adapter). To compare the current adapters, see the [Hardware Comparison Table](/hardware/comparison/).

## What is a host adapter?

[What is a host adapter?](/support/faq/what-is-a-host-adapter/)
