# Binho Nova: Firmware

> Which firmware file the Binho Nova uses, how to update it with Mission Control 2, and where to get the latest version.

The Nova's firmware is field-upgradeable. It is updated from [Mission Control 2](/software/legacy/mission-control-2/).

## Latest firmware

The latest Nova firmware and its download are in the [Latest Firmware table](/guides/firmware-updates/#latest-firmware). The Nova's firmware file ends in `.fig`. Release notes are not published for the Nova.

:::caution
The Nova, the Supernova, the Pulsar and the Atira use different firmware. Do not load a file for one product onto another. The Nova's file has `nova` in its name.

:::

## Update the firmware

**Automatic update**

1. Launch Mission Control 2 and plug in the Nova.
2. Open the **Connection** menu, choose the Nova and connect.
3. If the firmware is out of date, a dialog offers **Update Firmware**. Click it, wait for the update to finish, then click **OK**.

Keep the Nova plugged in, the computer awake and the internet connection up until the update finishes.

**A specific version**

Click **ENTER BOOTLOADER MODE** in Mission Control 2. The Nova appears as a USB drive: copy the `.fig` file onto it, then reconnect and check the version.

The full steps, with screenshots, are in [Updating Firmware: Binho Nova](/guides/firmware-updates/#binho-nova).

## Check the firmware version

Run `binho info` from the Nova Python package. It prints each Nova's serial number, COM port and firmware version, and says whether a Nova is in bootloader or DAPLink mode. See [Nova SDK](/software/legacy/nova-sdk/).

If the Nova shows up as a USB drive unexpectedly, or a firmware file is rejected, see [Troubleshooting](/hardware/nova/troubleshooting/).
