# binhopulsar

> Legacy: the Python package for the Binho Pulsar USB host adapter.

:::caution
**Legacy:** this documents the `binhopulsar` Python package, being phased out in favor of
[CosmicSDK and the new Python SDK](..). It remains
supported during the transition. New projects on Supernova or Pulsar should start
with [CosmicSDK](/software/cosmicsdk/).

:::

`binhopulsar` is described on PyPI as the "Basic SDK for Binho Pulsar": the Python
package for interacting with the Pulsar USB host adapter, supporting I2C, SPI,
UART, and GPIO.

It is the direct Pulsar equivalent of [binhosupernova](/software/legacy/binhosupernova/). Per the
package's own documentation, "The Pulsar host adapter shares its API with the Binho
Supernova adapter," so the commands and interfaces carry over and moving between
the two is straightforward.

:::note
This is a legacy package. For Supernova and Pulsar, new development is going into
[CosmicSDK and the Python SDK](..). `binhopulsar`
remains available and supported in the meantime.

:::

## Requirements

* Python 3.8 or higher
* A Binho Pulsar host adapter

## Installation

```sh
pip install binhopulsar
```

The latest release is **1.2.0** (11 June 2025), which added persistent voltage
configuration across power cycles for I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO, and unified I2C
pull-up resistor values between the Pulsar and Supernova platforms.

:::danger
Package version must match the Pulsar's firmware generation: firmware v4.x
requires `binhopulsar` 1.2.0 (`from binhopulsar.pulsar import Pulsar`), firmware
v3.x requires 0.3.0 (`from BinhoPulsar.Pulsar import Pulsar`). Never flash
Supernova firmware to a Pulsar or vice versa: see
[Updating Firmware](/guides/firmware-updates/).
